Pattern Bakery style Christmas in Porvoo

Season's Greetings from Porvoo to all!
These pictures are from Salla's home, an old school dating from 1939. The place is newly renovated but you can still see the charming features of a traditional Scandinavian loghouse.

Behind this door you will find naturally a home where
Pattern Bakery designs are proudly presented and present allover.

The biggest classroom has been turned into a kitchen and dining room.

Salla's bedlinen design "Välke" for Finlayson serves as tablecloth.

"Välke" in red brings a lovely Christmas feeling.

Fun project from last year 2012: Arabia's Joulukylä illustrated by Pattern Bakery.

If you wish to have these for yourself,  i.e. Finnish Design Shop can help you out.

Quite sweet spoons, aren't they!

Dear all - we wish you a lovely, relaxing Christmas holiday!

Twinkling Christmas everyone!

All photos copyright Arabia

Yet another fun project we did with the good people from Arabia, Finland. Decoration for the Christmas 2013 seasonal tablewear, it's called Tuike, Finnish word for twinkle. The inspiration was Christmas night, outside, forest, warmth, light and softness. You can also find elements from traditional Finnish or Scandinavian textile and handcraft. You can find it on-line here.

Lysti for Arabia

We recently had a chance to work on a fun project for a long-term Finnish table wear company called Arabia. They asked us to do an illustration for their new kids' collection, with plates and cups.

There are two different "starter sets", with mugs with two handles for easy hold and plates that help getting the food off the plate also for the kids themselves. The shape was designed by Richard Lindh in the 80s. The new shapes for older kids (I'll be using them as well, so for adults) was designed by Pekka Paikkari. Pattern Bakery was responsible for the illustration. We wanted to create a colourful, new forest, with lots of different animals and happenings. As with lots of our illustration projects, there are small details that create the world, lots of little fun things for eaters to find.

My favorites are probably the little, yellow creature, reaching for the drink with his straw and the bear hiding behind the mushroom (or is it his nose?). The collection is called 'Lysti' ('Fun' in english) and you can find more on-line here. Thanks to my lovely niece and nephew for being such good sports and letting me take some photos of their Lysti-moments. The extra plates and table wear is vintage Arabia.

Oh, and hope you have a nice weekend!

Village Christmas

All photos www.arabia.fi

We are happy to present our collaboration with the lovely Finnish company, Arabia! For this Christmas 2012, we designed a pattern for their collection. It's called Joulukylä, Christmas Village, and if you look closely, you can find all sorts of stories, tastes and flavors in the design. Albeit it has the traditional Christmas elements such as ginger bread men, candles and fir trees, the execution is also graphic and modern. We were inspired by town Christmas fairs and a recipe for a mulled wine. If you promise to be good, we'll give you the recipe come December...
